The world you find yourself in already has a lot of history that has taken place and influenced the world you exist in today. The planet was colonized by the Sincorp organisation 100 years ago with but a handful of humans known as "founders" their robot assistants and the technology to clone a workforce to build a new utopia.
Many factions have formed and changed over the years with leaders being formed and starting their own revolutions on the planet. The three main factions are Sincorp, FTC and Yamakai and many other minor factions also inhabit the desert lands.
As you defeat bounties, sell more items in towns and complete quests - you will see the world around you changing. From the enemies which spawn or the inhabitants of a town, the world is living and breathing.
Build and maintain your own cloning facility to find obscure mutations and put them to use in your supply chain.
